In most cases yes. Sandstone varies by bed and quarry, so we match as closely as the source allows, by colour, grain and how it weathers. Where an exact match is not available we advise you honestly before any stone is cut.
Cement is hard and traps moisture, which pushes damp into the soft stone and blows the face over time. Lime and hot-mix mortars flex and let the wall breathe, which is why they suit older sandstone buildings.
The aim is that it is not. New stone is cut, dressed and bedded to match, and it will weather in over the first few seasons. Up close you may see it is newer, but the wall reads as one.
